A 43-year-old cook was arrested by the Narsingi police for stabbing a driver to death following a quarrel over food at a villa in Kokapet late on Saturday night.
The accused, identified as Shaik Basha, a native of Kurnool district Andhra Pradesh, was apprehended during the investigation and was remanded to judicial custody.
The case came into light following a complaint by Katragunta Dharmateja, a resident of North Star Allura Villas. The incident occurred around 11.45 p.m. on Saturday (March 28) when only his sister-in-law was present at the house. The villa had been rented by his maternal uncle, and the family had been residing there for the past four months.
Shaik Basha had been working as a cook and staying in the servant quarters, while the deceased, Peenumalla Karthik, had been engaged as a driver about 15 days ago.
Investigation revealed that a heated argument broke out between the two over the serving of food, which escalated into violence. During the altercation, the accused attacked Karthik with a knife, inflicting multiple stab injuries. The victim died on the spot.
