India Post will inaugurate coastal Karnataka’s first ‘New Generation’ Post Office at the National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal on Monday at 10 a.m.
The postal department upgraded its Srinivasnagar Sub Post Office on the premises of NIT-K as ‘New Generation’ Post Office. It is the fourth such post office in the State, a release stated.
The post office has multi-functional space moving away from the traditional “counter-only” model.
It has free high-speed Wi-Fi and a self-booking kiosk. The post office has a modern writing ledge, a lobby for relaxation, and a library corner. In addition, it provides complementary coffee/tea and there is a water dispenser. The post office has a dedicated game zone and a selfie point featuring a unique ‘High-Five’ mural between a traditional Post Box and a Gen-Z student, the department said.
By bringing N-Gen services to the NIT-K campus, the department is making the post office a ‘cool’ place for students to brainstorm, study, and connect, all while accessing essential postal and financial services. It blends heritage with ‘Gen Z’ energy, it added.
