The National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, has proposed setting up a research, innovation, and technology enterprise (RITE) park on its campus, its Director B. Ravi said on Friday.Speaking at the Silicon Beach Dialogue Series, organised by Silicon Beach Program, an initiative aimed at transforming coastal Karnataka into a major technology and innovation hub, the director said the park had been proposed on 1.5 lakh sq. ft. at a cost of ₹440 crore.Meanwhile, the proceedings of the 66th meeting of the Finance Committee of NIT-K held on April 6, 2026, stated: “The committee resolved to direct the institute to review its lease deed with NITK-Science, Technology and Entrepreneur’s Park (STEP) Society and amend the deed, with the consent of the STEP board, to enable repossessing of the land for RITE Park and other purposes of the institute.”NIT-K had leased 20 acres of land on the western side of the campus to NITK-STEP in 1994 for 50 years to establish STEP, which was registered as a society. So far, less than five acres have been utilised for STEP, it said.UG curriculum to be revampedSpeaking at the dialogue, Mr. Ravi said NIT-K would completely overhaul the curriculum of its undergraduate programmes from the 2026-27 academic year. Life, technical, and professional skills would be incorporated into the curriculum.At the same time, it would also introduce online postgraduate programmes, he said.
