Chanakyapuri, Kashmere Gate, and Paharganj are among several areas in north and central Delhi that will receive reduced water supply due to problems at Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant (WTP), a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) order stated on Friday.
Though the order did not specify the number of days supply will remain affected, a senior DJB official said the supply time has been reduced for the next couple of days.
According to DJB officials, about 47 million gallons per day (MGD) is functional against the installed capacity of 58 MGD.
“After continuous efforts, the plant was made operational in a phased manner on March 25. “However, due to residual moisture, faults have been repeatedly occurring in the repaired motors during operational hours, affecting normal water supply,” another official said.
To provide interim relief and ensure continued water availability, around 100 additional water tankers have been deployed in the affected areas.
