Education Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday criticised the functioning of universities in the Capital under the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, citing a Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report that highlighted financial irregularities in university operations between 2018 and 2023.

Mr. Sood underscored the condition of Delhi Sports University and Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University, established during the AAP government in 2020.

“Delhi Sports University is operating out of just six rooms in a school. Around 200-250 students are studying there, but what about their future? What will be the curriculum? What kind of degrees will be awarded? Who will be the professors? There are no clear answers to any of these questions. Likewise, Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University was established, and all polytechnic institutions were merged into it,” he said.

The audited accounts of universities were not presented before the House, funds were misused, and money meant for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) students was not properly utilised, Mr. Sood said, adding that these observations were noted in the report.

“However, the situation is now changing. Our commitment is clear – we are not a government of announcements, but of results on the ground,” he said.
