Hyundai is recalling more than 46,000 of its newer vehicle models, according to a notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.
The recall for the Hyundai vehicles is due to a fault in the vehicle’s seat belt status indicator, which the notice says could malfunction due to possibly damaged “internal wiring within the third-row driver-side seat belt buckle.”
Officials say damaged wiring could cause the car to display the seat belt buckle as buckled in cases it is not.
“A faulty seat belt status indicator may fail to alert occupants to an unfastened seat belt, increasing the risk of injury,” the recall notice said.
Owners of impacted models are expected to receive notification letters on May 18, according to the notice. Impacted vehicles will receive a new wiring harness extension and a new seat belt assembly from dealers, free of charge.
