The headmistress of the Panchayat Union Primary School, Sankaranatharkudikadu in Thanjavur district, has been suspended on the charges of “violating service rules”.
According to official sources, the suspension order was a sequel to the headmistress Krishnaveni’s, 58, participation in a “Women’s Day” celebration organised by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam at Orathanadu a few days ago. She danced to a film song Kodambakkam area at the event. A video of her dance performance was widely shared on social media platforms.
Subsequently, the Education Department officials received petitions objecting to the “behaviour” of the Headmistress and sought action against her. Thus, citing the ‘violation of service rules’, ie. a public servant barred from participating/exhibiting his political inclination publicly, the department issued a suspension order to her on March 24.
Ms. Krishnaveni said she had decided to take up this issue legally in consultation with her lawyer. She said that she had participated in the celebration organised at the venue where a political party event was held prior to their programme.
