District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad has asked the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and airport authorities to hold discussions regarding the establishment of a service road from the airport to Gajuwaka, and to arrive at a decision on its expansion.
He also discussed the expansion of Hanumanthavaka Junction and the construction of an underpass in the area. He suggested widening the free left turns at Hanumanthavaka signal for traffic coming from the Zoo Park road, as well as for vehicles coming from Kailasagiri towards the NH-16
He was speaking during a road safety review meeting held at the Collectorate, in the city on Wednesday.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Harendhira Prasad directed all officials to take stringent measures to prevent road accidents in the district. He asked the GVMC, RTC, police, and the Road Transport Department to conduct a joint review of speed breakers installed in the city. He asked them to assess their advantages, disadvantages, and directed removal of unnecessary ones. He also instructed the police to initiate strict action against rash driving cases.
The Collector emphasised the need for cellar parking in shopping complexes amid growing parking problems and also directed strict action against unauthorised parking on roads. During the meeting, the Collector directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to ensure the installation of proper signboards and visible blinkers at pedestrian crossings on the national highways.
