Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè went to work as usual at her ministry on Wednesday after Premier Giorgia Meloni called on her to resign on Tuesday.

Wearing a beige suit and sunglasses and accompanied by her bodyguards, the minister, who is under investigation in several cases related to her business activities, arrived at the ministry at 10:05 and nodded a greeting at the journalists waiting for her there, without making any comments.

Santanchè, a Senator for Meloni's right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, has several engagements on her agenda on Tuesday, including some dedicated to the organization of an International Pet Tourism Forum in Rome in May.

Opposition parties are set to present a no-confidence motion in Santanchè that she has little chance of surviving without the premier's support.

Meloni is reportedly seeking to purge her executive of potentially problematic figures in view of the next general election, with the parliamentary term set to end next year, after she suffered her first major setback since becoming premier with defeat in Sunday and Monday's referendum on the government's justice-system reform.
