A 60-year-old police officer serving in the Siddipet Commissionerate died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city, with the Madhapur police registering a case following a complaint by his family.

The deceased, identified as Tallapalli Raja Sambayya, who was working as a Reserve Sub-Inspector, had been admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Hitec City on March 7 for treatment of lumps on his hip.

According to Madhapur Inspector D. Krishna Mohan, during the course of treatment, he was diagnosed with moyamoya disease, a progressive, chronic condition involving the narrowing of arteries in the brain. The doctors performed brain surgery on March 10. Later the same day, following complications, a second brain surgery was carried out.

Despite continued treatment, doctors confirmed that he passed away on March 20.

Based on a complaint lodged by his wife, Tallapalli Tirupatamma, the Madhapur police on Saturday registered a case of negligence against the hospital and initiated an investigation.
