A 24-year-old Sidhant Nichani from Chennai has taken it upon himself to start the first diecast club of miniature toy cars in the city. He says Lego, Hot Wheels, and blind box toys are currently swelling among adults, and it is no child’s play.

Likewise, Fazila, founder of Journal Owl from the city, sat for 15 hours to complete a 3D wooden puzzle of a Sakura tram model entirely by herself.

The toy aisles for children have adults lingering, buying toys for themselves these days, and the toy industry calls them ‘kidults’, especially those with a more pronounced affinity for games and toys, and Chennai is no exception to this culture.

According to market research company Circana, kidults mainly contribute a substantial share of the toy industry, accounting for 28% of global toy sales in 2024, an increase of 2.5% since 2022.
