Police have arrested two men in connection with the theft of a rooster in Royapettah.

Police said the complainant, Masood Basha, 19, a resident of Nallanna Lane in Royapettah had reportedly purchased a fighting rooster for ₹10,000 in October 2025 and was raising it at his residence. On the morning of March 15, he had let the rooster out of its cage, but found it missing after a short while. Upon checking nearby CCTV footage, he discovered that two persons had stolen the bird.

Based on his complaint, the Royapettah Police crime wing launched an investigation. Police examined the scene and analysed CCTV footage, leading to the arrest of two suspects identified as Vasanth Kumar, 22, and Naresh, alias Gubendran, 24, both residents of Royapettah. Police also seized a two-wheeler used in the commission of the offence.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had jointly stolen the rooster, sold it, and spent the money. Further inquiry showed that Vasanth Kumar has two prior theft cases against him, while Naresh, alias Gubendran, is involved in six criminal cases, including ganja-related offences and robbery.
