March 18 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump's nominee to replace Kristi Noem as secretary of Homeland Security is facing a Senate panel seeking confirmation on Wednesday.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., is appearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee 13 days after Noem was ousted as secretary of Homeland Security.
Wednesday's hearing began at 9:30 a.m. EST.
Mullin faces a difficult situation in the Department of Homeland Security, which is currently under a partial shutdown due to a funding dispute in Congress. That dispute centers around additional funding for the department amid strong Democratic and public pushback against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
