Two doctors have been placed under investigation on suspicion of falsifying the medical records of a two-year-old boy who died in a Naples hospital last month, a month after receiving a damaged heart.
Heart surgeon Guido Oppiso, who put the transplanted organ into little Domenico Caliendo, is facing the possible charge of fraud along with second operator Emma Bergonzoni, judicial sources said.
They, along with five other doctors, are already being probed for possible negligent manslaughter in the case.
Domenico died after the transplant of the organ which was possibly damaged in transit from a Bolzano hospital because the container that was used was not fit for purpose, prosecutors suspect.
