Officials from the Food Safety Department conducted surprise raids at several biryani and pulao outlets in the city on Sunday (March 15, 2026).

As per the officials, inspections were carried out on biryani outlets located at the out gate of the GVMC Main Office. During the inspections, the officials found that the food items were being prepared in unhygienic conditions at some of the outlets. Notices were issued to the owners directing them to ensure that food is prepared in a clean and hygienic environment.

The officials also instructed that food handlers make sure they wear masks, caps and aprons while preparing and serving food. They were further directed to maintain valid physical fitness certificates for staff, ensure proper maintenance of floors, walls and ceilings, and dispose of garbage in a systematic manner.

The Food Safety personnel collected 14 samples, including chicken biryani, chicken fry, chicken curry, mutton biryani, fried items, and the cooking oil used for preparing the dishes. The samples will be sent to the food laboratory for analysis. The officials said that based on the lab reports, action will be initiated against the outlets.

Food safety officers G.V. Appa Rao, Satish and others were present.
