Officials of Food Safety Department seized around 18 kg of stale cooked rice, mutton and chicken and kneaded parotta dough along with meat and fish that were not preserved in the right temperature from a popular biriyani shop on Sankarankoil Road here on Wednesday.

The officials, led by the Food Safety Designated Officer, S. Mariappan, also seized two kg of variety of ice-creams that were piled up in a heap. The seized goods were destroyed.

Investigation also revealed that the kitchen for the biriyani shop was set up on a poultry farm premises in A. Ramalingapuram which did not have a valid food safety licence. Consequently, the operation of the kitchen was suspended immediately.

Two bread packets which did not have the labels mentioning the date of manufacture and date of expiry were also seized.

A case would be booked against the owner of the biriyani shop after the preliminary enquiry.
