The global fuel crisis has hit the healthcare sector hard. Wadi Surgicals Pvt. Ltd., located in the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), has been forced to stop all operations this week.

The factory, which produces essential medical gloves, has remained shut for the past four days, due to the non-availability of cooking gas (LPG) needed to run its machines.

The company has attributed the shutdown to no supply from HPCL, which has reportedly cited “geopolitical reasons”—referring to the ongoing Middle East war—for the shortage.

The factory is a major producer of nitrile examination gloves. These are “Class A” medical devices used by doctors and nurses across India to prevent infections and ensure patients safety. Unlike a small kitchen, this massive facility requires a staggering 4,500 kg of LPG every single day to keep the production lines running.

“Our production has come to a complete halt. We sincerely urge the government to address this critical issue and provide immediate LPG supply to essential sectors like us,” the company said in a release on Thursday.
