Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu said he will work with all stakeholders to address the city’s challenges and help transform it into a global capital after being sworn in as the 23rd Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) of the National Capital Territory of Delhi on Wednesday.

Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Sandhu at Lok Niwas. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Ministers, and other dignitaries.

Calling Delhi his “karmabhoomi (workplace)”, Mr. Sandhu said he would focus on turning challenges into opportunities for the city’s development. “Delhi has several stakeholders, and Delhi has also been my karmabhoomi. I have studied and worked here. PM [Narendra] Modi has a vision for India, and Delhi is the Capital. The elected government and all the stakeholders have a responsibility to find solutions to the various problems,” he said.

Mr. Sandhu said he would strive to take the city to its rightful place as a global capital. “I shall work with the Government of India, Government of NCT of Delhi, our neighbouring States and the people of Delhi to address the issues that the national capital faces and strive to take the city to its deserving place as a global capital,” read a post on X from the official handle of the Lieutenant-Governor.
