Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh on Tuesday flagged off 48 new tipper trucks at the headquarters of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to strengthen the collection and transportation of horticulture waste across the Capital.

The Horticulture Department’s total fleet dedicated to collecting green waste has now increased to 74, Mr. Singh said.

The trucks, powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), will be deployed for collecting horticulture waste from municipal parks and gardens and transporting it to designated green waste centres.

The vehicles were purchased with funding from the Union government under the Urban Development Fund.

The Mayor said the vehicles are equipped with hydraulic tipping systems that will help improve the efficiency of horticulture waste management across all MCD zones.
