Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh on Thursday (April 2, 2026) flagged off a fleet of vehicles, including backhoe loaders, mechanical road sweepers and flood-control emergency units, procured by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to address waterlogging and strengthen sanitation services.

Mr. Singh said residents would not witness the extent of waterlogging seen in previous years during the coming monsoon. “This is the second phase of induction of advanced machines into the MCD fleet,” he said.

e added that the civic body had procured two CNG-powered flood-control emergency vehicles to tackle urban flooding caused by monsoon rains and inadequate drainage systems. “Each vehicle is equipped with a pump capable of removing up to 10,000 litres of water per minute. These vehicles will ensure quick response during waterlogging situations and help reduce traffic disruption,” he said.

Each vehicle, with a service life of 15 years, has been procured at a cost of ₹87.02 lakh. The quality of the vehicles has been verified by IIT Delhi, and they will be operated under a comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) model.

The MCD has also procured six truck-mounted Mechanical Road Sweeping Machines (MRSMs), each with a capacity of 4.5 cubic metres, at a cost of ₹58.69 lakh per unit.
