USA TODAY has hired Jamie Stockwell to serve as vice president of news, effective March 30, as the national outlet modernizes and tightens ties with the USA TODAY Network’s more than 200 local news organizations.
Stockwell brings deep experience leading high-stakes coverage across large, complex newsrooms. Most recently, she served as deputy managing editor of news at The Washington Post.
“Jamie’s career has been defined by ambitious journalism, digital innovation and a deep commitment to the evolving needs and preferences of modern audiences,” USA TODAY Senior Vice President Monica Richardson said in the March 10 announcement. “Her experience building high-performing teams at a local and national level, driving transformation and producing high-impact storytelling with her candid leadership style will be instrumental as we accelerate USA TODAY’s evolution and solidify our role as America’s essential, facts-forward news source.”
Stockwell will report to Richardson as they work to grow the company’s broad national audience with “unbiased, high-impact journalism,” company officials said.
Stockwell began her journalism career at The Washington Post, first as an intern and later as a metro reporter covering criminal justice for nearly eight years.
