Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the death of a 26-year-old man following a clash during Holi celebrations in south-west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, taking the total number of people held in the case to seven, the police said on Saturday.

The police also appealed to residents to maintain peace and refrain from believing or spreading rumours.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in a post on X, said instructions have been issued to the administration to immediately arrest all culprits involved in the crime and ensure strictest action against them as per law. She said “strict and exemplary action” will be taken in this case so that “no one dares to commit such an inhuman act in future”.

‘Feuding neighbours’

The incident occurred on Wednesday and was allegedly triggered by a dispute over a water balloon thrown by a girl that accidentally hit a woman. The situation quickly escalated as members of both their families gathered on the street and exchanged blows, resulting in the death of Tarun Bhutolia.
