Amid intense speculations and ahead of the last day for withdrawal of names for the five Rajya Sabha seats getting vacant from Bihar, hectic political activity is going on in Patna on Wednesday (March 4, 2026).
It is speculated that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is likely to step down from the post, and he may go to the Rajya Sabha. Speculations in the State’s fast changing political scenario are also rife that his son, Nishant Kumar, may become Deputy Chief Minister of the State with the Chief Minister from the ruling coalition partner, BJP.

Meeting of top JD-U leaders, including the party’s working president Sanjay Kumar Jha and Union Minister and party’s MP from Munger Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh are going on at the official residence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar 1, Anne Marg (till the time of reporting).
Last year, in November 2025, Mr. Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of the state for the 10th time. Barring nine months when Jitan Ram Manjhi was the Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar has been the CM of the State since November 2005. Earlier in the day, senior JD-U leaders and Ministers in Nitish Kumar's cabinet, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Ashok Choudhary, are said to have spoken to Mr. Nitish Kumar.
