Two men were arrested in Gujarat for breaking in and stealing cash in six shops at a commercial complex in Flower Bazaar.

Police said Rameshkumar Jain, 55, a resident of Flower Bazaar, runs a cosmetics shop on Reddy Ram Street in the locality. On January 25, he locked his shop in the afternoon and returned home. When he reopened it the next morning, he found that the shutter lock had been broken and ₹1.30 lakh kept in the cash box had been stolen.

He also discovered that the lock of the opposite shop, owned by one Pavar Lal, had also been broken. About ₹65,000 was stolen from that shop. Additionally, locks of another shop in the same floor and three shops on the first floor of the same building had been broken, though no cash or goods were reported missing from those premises.

Based on a complaint lodged by Rameshkumar Jain at the Flower Bazaar Police Station Crime Wing, a case was registered and investigation taken up. After examining the scene of crime and analysing CCTV footage, the police came to the conclusion that the two suspects involved in the theft had fled and were hiding in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The police team first proceeded to Rajasthan and then to Surat in Gujarat. With the assistance of the Gujarat police, the accused — Eswar, 42, and Kanpath Singh, 38, of Jalore district, Rajasthan — were arrested in Surat on February 27. They were produced before the Surat Judicial Magistrate Court on February 28 and subsequently brought to Chennai following due legal procedures.
