Rep. Lauren Boebert gave an absurd reason for giving a right-wing influencer a photograph of Hillary Clinton testifying Thursday during her closed door deposition, possibly breaking House Oversight Committee rules.“I really admired her, um, blue suit, so I wanted to capture that for everyone,” Boebert told reporters in Chappaqua, New York, in an apparently sarcastic response.Clinton called her hours-long deposition regarding convicted sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein, whom she says she did not know, a distraction from President Donald Trump’s relationship with the predator.“It then got, at the end, quite unusual, because I started being asked about UFOs and a series of questions about ‘Pizzagate,’ one of the most vile, bogus conspiracy theories that was propagated on the internet, that was serving as the basis of a member’s questions to me,” Clinton told reporters after her meeting. Her deposition was paused shortly after Boebert sent conservative YouTuber Benny Johnson a photograph of Clinton testifying, despite committee rules regarding closed-door meetings.“We had a bit of a challenge in the beginning, because we agreed upon rules based on the fact it was going to be a closed hearing at their demand, and one of the members violated that rule, which was very upsetting,” Clinton said. Ranking House Oversight Committee member Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) said “everybody was very taken aback by the committee rules being essentially not enforced and certainly just broken immediately,” The Hill reports.Johnson, however, defended posting the image because Clinton initially “wanted it to be done LIVE on TV.” Boebert also defended Johnson, saying he did nothing wrong. She joked on X, telling followers “No U.S. Ambassadors were harmed in the taking of today’s photo,” referencing the 2012 attack in Benghazi that killed a U.S. ambassador and three Americans. When asked by a reporter why she sent the picture to Johnson, Boebert responded, “Why not?”In another instance, Boebert told reporters she “just returned to my hotel room and installed the BleachBit software,” referencing an FBI investigation into Clinton’s private email server used for official government communications while she was secretary of state and a disk-cleaning software. Clinton was not charged with any criminal wrongdoing. “So I guess in regards to taking photos, I do not recall,” Boebert continued.Clinton’s husband, former president Bill Clinton, who, like Trump, socialized with Epstein, is set to testify Friday.
