Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Online retailer eBay said Thursday that it plans to cut about 800 jobs or about 6% of its workforce.
"We are taking steps to reinvest across our business and align our structure with our strategic priorities, which will affect certain roles across our workforce," an eBay representative said in a statement. "We are grateful for the contributions of the employees impacted and are committed to supporting them with care and respect."
The job cuts are spread across the organization, eBay said, and the decisions were based on operating model needs, areas of duplication and alignment to future priorities, CNBC reported.
As of Dec. 31, eBay had 12,300 employees worldwide, according to its latest annual filing. The company reported its fourth-quarter revenue last week, which showed a 15% increase to $3 billion.
On Feb. 18, eBay announced it would buy Depop, a secondhand clothing app from Etsy for $1.2 billion in cash, TechCrunch reported.
