Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan here on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Left Democratic Front [LDF] government over allegations that the personal data of government employees and teachers had been leaked.

Despite a clear judgment from the Kerala High Court on data privacy, the personal information of government employees and teachers was allegedly leaked extensively by the Chief Minister’s Office, he said. The leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Chief Minister must also bear responsibility for the breach, he alleged, adding that the incident exposed the extent to which official systems were being misused.

Mr. Satheesan was interacting with the media at Kanjirappally on the sidelines of the Puthuyuga Yathra, a State wide rally led by him.

He also accused the government of splurging crores of rupees through borrowings with an eye on the upcoming elections. According to him, the government was planning to draw ₹250 crore from the headload workers’ welfare fund, while the ₹100 crore borrowed last year had not yet been repaid. Around ₹10,000 crore was also being sourced from cooperative banks, he pointed out.

“If the CPI(M) is that much keen on ensuring continuity in power, it should do so using party funds, not taxpayers’ money. Public funds must not be misused to secure political continuation,” he said.
