Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested early Tuesday morning in New Orleans after allegedly hitting two people during Mardi Gras celebrations, police confirmed to HuffPost. He has been charged with two counts of simple battery.

Investigators say LaBeouf was causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a Royal Street business. TMZ reported that it was a bar in the city’s French Quarter.

Police told HuffPost the actor was forced to leave the business, and once outside, he hit someone using a closed fist “several times,” then left and came back “acting even more aggressive.”

Multiple people tried to hold LaBeouf down, police said, but he allegedly hit the same person again. He then allegedly hit another person in the nose.

LaBeouf was reportedly held down until police arrived and then taken to a nearby hospital for undisclosed injuries. His representatives did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
