The ground work for constructing an overbridge at Tiruthangal began on Tuesday.

An earthmover dug up the ground to mark the beginning of the work to be executed at a cost of ₹45.60 crore.

Sivakasi MLA G. Ashokan and Sivakasi Sub-Collector Mohammed Irfan were present.

The MLA said that the 30-year-old dream of the people of Sivakasi was getting realised with the construction of the bridge which will eliminate the railway level-crossing on the road connecting Tiruthangal with Keezha Tiruthangal.

A total of ₹32.87 crore had been spent on land acquisition for the project.
