Heated, polarizing and violent discourse is everywhere. In the run-up to elections, educators have a responsibility to protect educational spaces from dehumanizing discourse to protect Israeli democracy
On Tuesday, Nahar Siddhi, a 12th-grader in my school, was violently assaulted by a passerby. His only sin was that he stood in the street with his friends and dared to express sympathy with the difficulties the Arab community in Israel is experiencing right now. Nahar is the salt of the earth. He loves Israel and has fought for years for the character of the country. Like a veteran fighter, he joked and told me that he is used to violence from hooligans who are not willing to listen to opinions labeled "leftist" or "Kaplanist."
