ourteen months ahead of the presidential election, France's municipal elections on March 15 and 22 will be a significant early test for those who dream of an alliance between right-wing Les Républicains (LR) and far-right parties. For now, such alliances have been sporadic. But subtle signals have begun to emerge across France.

In Nice, LR MEP Christophe Gomart publicly supported Eric Ciotti, president of the Union des droites pour la République (UDR), a party allied with the far-right Rassemblement National (RN). In the northeastern city of Colmar, Alain Kott, president of a local LR federation, backed the RN. In the eastern city of Bourg-en-Bresse, a far-right Reconquête! lead candidate has the support of local LR officials. In Paris, Aurélie Assouline (LR), deputy mayor of the 17th arrondissement, joined the campaign of Reconquête! candidate Sarah Knafo.
