Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has been discharged from the hospital after being admitted with flu-like symptoms early last week, his spokesman announced Wednesday.

McConnell, 83, was discharged on Tuesday. He will work from home this week on the advice of his doctors, his spokesman, David Popp, said.

McConnell missed two votes in the U.S. Senate during his absence.

"Senator McConnell was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is grateful for the outstanding care he received," Popp said.

The longtime senator was hospitalized on the night of Feb. 2, and was experiencing flu-like symptoms in the days prior. He checked himself into the hospital out of "an abundance of caution."
