James Van Der Beek's Wife Sets Up A GoFundMe Because They're 'Out Of Funds'James Van Der Beek's wife, Kimberly, set up a GoFundMe shortly after the "Dawson's Creek" actor's death was announced Wednesday because the family is "out of funds" after he underwent cancer treatment for more than a year. Last year, Van Der Beek sold memorabilia from the hit TV show to help pay for his cancer treatment. "In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future," a statement on GoFundMe read."The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds. They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time. The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead."The statement said the funds will go toward living expenses, bills and the six children's education. As of Wednesday afternoon, the family had raised more than $216,000. GoFundMe confirmed the legitimacy of the page."We are working with the organizer to ensure funds safely reach the intended beneficiary," a GoFundMe spokesperson told HuffPost. "Funds are being held safely by our payment processor in the meantime."See All UpdatesClose
