The Canadian Olympic Committee said it is "heartbroken" after nine people were killed and more than two dozen were injured in multiple shootings at a school and home in British Columbia on Feb. 10.
“We are heartbroken by the news of the horrific school shooting that occurred in British Columbia," the Canadian Olympic Committee wrote in a statement. "Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community. Team Canada stands with everyone affected as they navigate difficult days ahead.”
The shootings occurred primarily at a school in Tumbler Ridge, a municipality in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. The suspected shooter was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said in a news release.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers initially responded to a report of an active shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, which has grades 7-12 and educates 160 students, according to its website. Upon arrival, officers found over 25 people injured, with six victims dead inside the school. A seventh person died on the way to the hospital, and two others were airlifted to the hospital with serious or life‑threatening injuries, according to the news release.
