The Trump administration’s posting — and subsequent deletion — of two controversial social media messages in recent days prompted an uncomfortable question for White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt during Tuesday’s briefing.
A reporter asked Leavitt about a racist video shared by President Donald Trump and a separate post by Vice President JD Vance. Both were later taken down.
Watch from the 15:30 point here:
Trump’s post on his Truth Social platform featured former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama depicted as what appeared to be a cartoon chimpanzee and gorilla in a fleeting moment in a longer video about alleged voter fraud. The imagery sparked outrage on both sides of the aisle.
Vance’s deleted post, made during a trip to Armenia, appeared to recognize the Armenian genocide. But that position is at odds with the Trump administration’s official line.
