While the White House eventually deleted Trump's racist meme about the Obamas, Rep. Mike Lawler said Sunday that the president should still issue an apology that addresses the racism historically tied to comparing Black people with monkeys.

The New York Republican was one of the first from his party to publicly condemn the post that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. At the time, Lawler called it "wrong and incredibly offensive" regardless of intent and demanded it be taken down with an apology.
