FBI Letter To Election Officials Part Of Normal Pre-Election Planning, Agency SaysAn FBI letter sent to every top state election officer announcing a conference call on Feb. 25 is part of normal pre-election planning, according to the Election Assistance Commission."The upcoming call with federal partners and election officials is routine and has been done by various agencies in previous election cycles," EAC Chairman Donald Palmer told HuffPost in a statement. "This is an opportunity to introduce points of contact for the midterm election year and share information. The EAC is facilitating this conversation with federal partners and state and local election officials on 2026 preparations."The letter, first reported by Crooked Media and also by NBC News, prompted concern among Democratic election officials following the recent FBI raid on Fulton County, Georgia, election offices and President Donald Trump's calls to nationalize elections in 15 states."Given what’s occurred over the last two weeks I am concerned," Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar told Crooked Media. The FBI sent the letter scheduling the conference call because the EAC is a small agency and they let "other agencies take the lead," a source at the EAC told HuffPost. The agency plans to hold a similar call in March for local election officials, the source said. The call will also provide a place where state election officials can voice concerns about the recent actions of the Trump administration.See All UpdatesClose
