Yet another round of bitter cold and snow is headed for parts of the Northeast this week, while the Mid-Atlantic region could see some additional light snow on Feb. 4, forecasters said.
A new storm system moving across the Mid-Atlantic will mix with lingering cold air, forming a period of light snow in the morning and a wintry mix in North Carolina later in the day and night, the National Weather Service said. The region won't see as significant a snowfall as the recent waves of winter weather because the storm won't rapidly strengthen in the area, AccuWeather reported. But periods of brief warmup and then refreezing could lead to dangerous ice.
As the week progresses, a front of Arctic air will trek through the Great Lakes region and into the Northeast and is set to bring snow squalls, high winds and freezing temperatures, forecasters said.
"These snow showers and squalls can limit visibility and lead to roads becoming snow-covered and icy quickly," AccuWeather Meteorologist Peyton Simmers said.
An Arctic front will sweep across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast toward the end of the week, AccuWeather reported.
