By releasing a new General Staff order regulating the policy for integrating ultra-Orthodox soldiers into the army, the Israel Defense Forces did its part to lay the groundwork for absorbing more soldiers from this community into its ranks. This is essential, given the shortfall of combat soldiers both created and revealed by the recent war. Nevertheless, the order itself was received with dissatisfaction by some secular soldiers and their families.
