Lok Sabha saw little disscussion over Motion of Thanks to President's speech as BJP-Congress traded barbs over Rahul Gandhi's claims

This comes a day after eight MPs were suspended after they threw bits of paper on the Chair.The Lower House today has managed to transact little business so far with the Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal apprising the House of the India-U.S. trade deal. Speaking amidst constant Opposition sloganeering, Mr. Goyal informed that India has been able to protect the interests of its agriculture and dairy sectors. He also said that the two sides will hold further meetings to finalise the draft of the deal. Post lunch, Mr. Goyal also addressed the Rajya Sabha on the same subject. The House then resumed its discussion on the motion for vote of thanks for the President’s address, with Leader of the House J.P Nadda saying that it was a blend of Indian tradition and progress. This was followed by a speech by Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, who highlighted several issues not dealt with by the President in her speech. In his letter to Mr. Birla, the Congress leader noted that while speaking on the Motion on the President’s address on Monday (February 2, 2026), the Speaker had directed him to authenticate a magazine which he intended to refer to while raising the India-China conflict of 2020.Follow the live blog for updates:
