A daring new children's book about mortality leads this week's Israeli culture highlights, alongside a major memoir release and an Israeli film festival in Los Angeles

Almost three years ago, the prolific and highly-regarded Israeli author and poet Nurit Zarchi made a surprising announcement in a Haaretz interview. "I'm not continuing with children's books anymore," the then-81-year-old author who has published more than 100 books told Haaretz journalist Gili Izikovich unexpectedly. "The world has changed… and the age gap between me and children needs to be examined seriously."
