Emphasising that the founder of Jana Sangh and later Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Syama Prasad Mookerjee, hailed from West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (January 31, 2026) said that the BJP and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have governments in 21 States and Union Territories in the country. However, the real satisfaction will come when the BJP wins the West Bengal Assembly polls.

“The BJP and NDA have governments in 21 States, but it does not matter. On this land of Bengal, 60 of our workers were killed by Trinamool Congress goons. Can the BJP workers tolerate this... Even after forming governments in 21 States, there is no satisfaction for BJP workers and our Prime Minister. The smile will come on their faces when there is a BJP government in West Bengal,” the Home Minister said addressing a public meeting at Siliguri in north Bengal.
