Kannada actor V. Ravichandran has urged parents not to force young children to focus only on marks. “I request all parents not to put undue pressure on students. Instead, we need to encourage children to pursue their passion in various fields,” he said.

Inaugurating the new building of S.M. Nargond education society in Athani on Saturday, he said that the rising trend of parents forcing children to get good marks and grades and qualify in entrance examinations was negatively affecting the morale and confidence of children.

“We need to stop it and focus instead on helping them shape their personality and become better citizens by facing various challenges in life. Several successful people that I know have not had formal education,’’ he said.

MLA for Athani Laxman Savadi asked the school to focus on value education and co-curricular activities of children. Sri Mahantaprabhu Swami of Shegunashi Mutt, Vivek Nargond, school committee chairman, and others were present, according to a release.
