Once again, the eyes of the nation have turned to Punxsutawney Phil. This year's Groundhog Day arrives on Monday, Feb. 2, in Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania. The celebrations will begin at 3 a.m. ET and run through the afternoon. Phil is set to emerge at sunrise, expected at 7:07 a.m. ET.
Will we get an early spring? Or will Punxsutawney Phil predict more frigid winter temperatures?
Punxsutawney Phil has been making forecasts since the late 1800s, but his predictions have been a little off. How good has he been at predicting the weather? Not very good, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The renowned groundhog's accuracy rate is not very high, so the pressure is on for the little guy. Here's a look at Phil's record:
According to the Groundhog Club's archives, Punxsutawney Phil has now seen his shadow 108 times, or 84% of the 129 times he has predicted the weather. From 1903 until 1933, he observed his shadow every year, making 31 his longest run.
