Eluru District Collector K. Vetri Selvi on Thursday (January 29) directed officials to reactivate unused bank accounts of various government departments in the district.

She was reviewing the details of bank accounts maintained by different departments for implementing various government schemes during a teleconference from the Collectorate. Officials were asked to provide department-wise information on such accounts, including the purpose for which they were opened, the amount currently lying unused in them and explain why it was not utilised.

Ms. Vetri Selvi said government departments maintain multiple bank accounts in different banks for managing funds related to schemes and programmes. While some accounts are actively used, several others remain dormant, leading to inefficiencies in fund management, she said and stressed the need to identify such unused accounts and take immediate steps to restore them to operational status.

Joint Collector M.J. Abhishek Gowda, District Revenue Officer V. Visweswara Rao, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Srihari and others were present.
