Two engineering students were killed and four others sustained injuries after a speeding car rammed into a pillar in the early hours of Wednesday (January 28, 2026) in Medipally on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The accident was reported around 2 a.m. near pillar number 97 when eight friends, all around 22 years of age were travelling in a car from Moula Ali towards IT Pocharam. The driver, allegedly driving at excessive speed, lost control and crashed into the roadside pillar.
Medipally Police Inspector, R Govinda Reddy said Sai Varun and Nikhil died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. Six others sustained injuries.
Upon receiving the information, police personnel rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to a private hospital, where two of the victims are reported to be in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased were moved to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.
Preliminary probe suggested that the group hailed from Wanaparthy district and were close friends who are currently studying in different engineering colleges across Hyderabad. They had met for a get-together and joyride, which ended in tragedy. A case was registered and an investigation is underway.
