She claimed he had been “brandishing” a gun and was a direct threat to federal officers.Witnesses to the fatal shooting disputed these claims in sworn affidavits. You can watch the video here.Then on Tuesday, a Customs and Border Protection official gave Congress a different narrative.After investigators from CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility had analyzed body-worn camera footage and agency documentation of the shooting, they determined that the federal officers had tried to take Pretti into custody and he resisted, leading to a struggle. A Border Patrol agent repeatedly yelled, “He’s got a gun!” That’s when a Border Patrol officer and a CBP officer opened fire, the statement said, per AP.The statement made no mention of Pretti brandishing a weapon.See All UpdatesClose
