The European Union has launched a formal investigation into X’s chatbot Grok over its creation of nonconsensual sexual images of users, which the commission says exposed EU citizens “to serious harm,” according to a statement released on Monday.

The investigation will “assess whether the company properly assessed and mitigated risks associated with the deployment of Grok's functionalities into X in the EU,” according to the statement.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
