NRA Urges ‘Full Investigation’ Into Minnesota Shooting, Calls Federal Prosecutor’s Response ‘Dangerous'A longstanding ally of the Trump administration is among the groups clashing with federal officials over a fatal shooting by Border Patrol agents on Saturday. In a post on X, the National Rifle Association slammed comments by Trump-backed Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, who argued that there was a "high likelihood" law enforcement would be "legally justified" in shooting someone who approached them with a gun. These sentiments are “dangerous and wrong,” the NRA stated, and called for an inquiry into the fatal violence that agents deployed against ICU nurse Alex Pretti. “Responsible public voices should be awaiting a full investigation, not making generalizations and demonizing law-abiding citizens,” the NRA wrote. The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus has also pushed back on claims made by FBI Director Kash Patel and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who criticized Pretti's possession of a firearm and argued that the federal agents operated in self-defense.Videos show Pretti holding a phone and not brandishing a gun at agents. They also appear to show agents taking a gun from Pretti's waistband prior to shooting him. Pretti was a licensed handgun owner, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara.“You cannot bring a firearm, loaded, with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. It's that simple,” Patel said during a Sunday interview on Fox News."This is completely incorrect on Minnesota law," the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus wrote on X.See All UpdatesClose
