Several bystanders recorded a Border Patrol agent fatally shooting a 37-year-old Minneapolis man on Jan. 24.
Videos show the deadly encounter in South Minneapolis at about 9:05 a.m. between several agents and Alex Pretti, a registered nurse.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the man approached Border Patrol agents with a handgun, and agents tried to disarm him.
“The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. ... Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots.” Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary for public affairs, said in a statement.
Videos do not show Pretti wielding a gun.
